What is Henna?
Henna, or mehendi, is a
flowering plant that has been used since the late Bronze Age. When its
leaves are crushed and made into a paste, it releases color which dyes
your skin.
Natural henna has a shade that varies from orange, maroon, red, and brown depending on skin color and type.

Black Henna?
Natural "black henna" may be derived from indigo and can contain many dyes and chemicals. It may also contain the "coal tar" color p-phenylenediamine, also known as PPD. Black henna with PPD will stain the skin quickly, but can cause severe allergic reactions and permanent scarring.
